Description


A monolithic, nonsynchronous switching regulator with an integrated 5-A, 40-V power switch is the TPS55340RTER. Boost, SEPIC, and isolated flyback are just a few of the common switching-regulator topologies that the device can be set up in. The device can accept input voltage from multicell batteries as well as regulated 3.3-V, 5-V, 12-V, and 24-V power rails, supporting applications using these input voltage sources.

The TPS55340RTER features an inbuilt oscillator and regulates the output voltage via current mode PWM (pulse width modulation) control. Either an external resistor or syncing to an external clock signal will establish the PWM's switching frequency. The switching frequency can be set anywhere between 100 kHz and 1.2 MHz by the user.

The device contains further built-in safety measures like cycle-by-cycle overcurrent limit and thermal shutdown in addition to a configurable soft-start mode to reduce inrush current during startup.

Small 3-mm 3-mm 16-pin QFN and 14-pin HTSSOP packages with PowerPAD for improved thermal performance are both available for the TPS55340RTER.

Pin-to-pin compatible with the 3-A, 40-V TPS61175, the 5-A, 40-V TPS55340RTER boost converter increases the maximum input voltage from 18 V to 32 V.
