As a matter of fact, the type of analog IC that this voltage regulator 12v is equipped with is called SWITCHING REGULATOR. This harley voltage regulator is available in the 8-WFDFN Exposed Pad package for the purpose of space saving. The voltage regulator 12v has 1 outputs. As you can see, this DC DC switching regulator generates Fixed output on its output pins. There is a switching regulator that is compatible with the Surface Mount mounting.
