The TPS63700DRCR is an inverting DC/DC converter that can generate negative output voltages as low as –15 V and output currents as high as 360 mA, depending on the input-to-output voltage ratio. The device is perfect for portable battery-powered equipment, with a peak efficiency of 84 percent. The TPS63700DRCR may be powered directly from a Li-ion battery, 3-cell NiMH/NiCd, or a 3.3-V or 5-V supply rail thanks to its input voltage range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V. A fixed-frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) control scheme is used to control the inverter. For maximum reliability under fault conditions, the device incorporates an internal current limit, overvoltage protection, and a thermal shutdown. With a switching frequency of typically 1.4 MHz, modest external components can be used, resulting in a small solution size. The TPS63700DRCR comes in a small 3-mm × 3-mm SON-10 package.
