IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm has fully embraced NXP's latest S32 series, expediting the development of software-defined automotive body and comfort applications.
Global leader in embedded development software and services, IAR, now offers comprehensive support for NXP Semiconductors' new motor control chip, S32M2. The S32M2 series is the latest iteration of NXP's S32 vehicle computing platform based on Arm® Cortex®, known for its efficiency and application in the fields of vehicle body and comfort. It aims to reduce in-cabin noise and enhance passenger comfort. IAR Embedded Workbench® for Arm® includes robust compilers and debugging solutions, already compatible with the latest S32M2, aiding the automotive industry's progress toward software-defined electric vehicles.
The S32M2 series is a highly integrated motor control solution based on the Arm Cortex-M microcontroller core. While similar to NXP's S32K MCU products, this new series introduces high-voltage analog capabilities and efficiency, suitable for various automotive applications such as pumps, fans, sunroofs, seat adjustments, seatbelt tensioners, or trunk openers. The S32M2's system-level integration includes automotive-standard and application-centric features, such as a regulator directly powered from a 12V car battery, physical communication interfaces (LIN, CXPI, or CAN FD), MOSFET gate drivers for motor control, and non-volatile memory (ranging from 128KB to 1MB), reducing overall component count. This allows automakers to decrease printed circuit board (PCB) size, lower design risks and material costs, and accelerate time-to-market.
IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm, a comprehensive development environment, has long supported NXP's widely adopted S32K microcontrollers. Now, it extends its support to the new S32M2 series, making software reuse more efficient. This complete C/C++ suite covers highly optimized compilers and advanced debugging and analysis features, including integrated power monitoring. In addition to highly optimized build tools and user-friendly code analysis add-ons such as IAR C-STAT static code analysis tool, IAR C-RUN dynamic analysis tool, and C-SPY debugger, it helps developers discover potential code issues and errors early in the development process to optimize overall code quality. IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm also provides a functionally safe version certified according to ISO 26262, aligning with the development process of S32K, which has obtained ISO 26262 ASIL B certification.
Thomas Ensergueix, Advanced Director of Automotive Processing Solutions at NXP, states, "With the launch of the S32M2 series, NXP offers automotive manufacturers an expanded S32 platform and comprehensive software support to help them optimize product development fully. The S32M2 series provides efficient motor control capabilities while maintaining performance space to integrate more features and capabilities, meeting the demands of the emerging software-defined electric vehicle market."
Anders Holmberg, CTO of IAR, expresses, "We are pleased to provide timely and robust support for NXP's advanced motor control solution, S32M2. IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm empowers automotive software developers to design efficient, simplified, and stable motor control applications. Moreover, users can seamlessly reuse code across various applications on the S32 platform, accelerating development cycles and reducing costs."
