ON Semiconductor Announces Signing of Long-Term Supply Agreement (LTSA) with BMW Group (BMW)
After the CES exhibition in February, ON Semiconductor’s EliteSiC silicon carbide series make it ushered in cooperation with BMW.The EliteSiC 750 V M3 chip is integrated into a full-bridge power module capable of delivering hundreds of kilowatts of power. It will be used in the German premium automaker's 400 V DC-link electric drivetrain.

ON Semiconductor provides differentiated chip solutions for BMW's specific applications, including optimized size and layout as well as high performance and reliability. Optimized electrical and mechanical characteristics enable high efficiency and lower overall losses while delivering very high system-level performance.
Onsemi launched "EliteSiC" as its silicon carbide (SiC) series on Jan. 3, and showcased three new members of the series -- 1700V EliteSiC MOSFETs -- at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and two 1700V avalanche-rated EliteSiC Schottky diodes. These new devices deliver reliable, high-efficiency performance for energy infrastructure and industrial drive applications, underscoring onsemi's position as a leader in industrial silicon carbide solutions.
With the 1700V EliteSiC MOSFET (NTH4L028N170M1), onsemi provides a higher breakdown voltage (BV) SiC solution required for high power industrial applications. Two 1700V avalanche-rated EliteSiC Schottky diodes (NDSH25170A, NDSH10170A) enable designers to achieve stable high-voltage operation at high temperatures while providing the high efficiency that SiC brings.
"By delivering best-in-class efficiency and reducing power losses, the new 1700V EliteSiC devices reinforce the high standards of performance and quality of our EliteSiC family, while furthering Extending the depth and breadth of onsemi EliteSiC. "Coupled with our end-to-end SiC manufacturing capabilities, onsemi provides the technology and assurance of supply to meet the needs of industrial energy infrastructure and industrial drive suppliers."
Asif Jakwani, Senior Vice President of ON Semiconductor and General Manager of the Advanced Power Division of the Power Solutions Division, said: "The battery life is the primary consideration for people to buy electric vehicles. ON Semiconductor's system solutions are used in all electric vehicles of the BMW Group to achieve performance optimization,it is a key competitive advantage. In addition, we continue to upgrade all production steps of our robust, vertically integrated SiC supply chain to be able to support the rapidly growing demand for premium electric vehicles from the BMW Group."
Leveraging decades of expertise in manufacturing power devices for automotive applications, ON Semiconductor has developed differentiated smart power technologies that enable industry-leading electric powertrain solutions. This includes superior packaging technology, and an evolution path from planar to trench cell structures to deliver the highest reliability required for EV applications across a wide range of voltages.
