Japan's Exports of Electronic Components Suffered Largest Drop in Last December
On the 28th of last month, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industry Association released statistics indicating that in December 2022, the global shipments of Japanese electronic parts factories fell by 6.0% from the same month last year to 342.3 billion yen. Against the background of declining market demand, the shipments of electronic components continued to shrink, and the global shipments of Japanese electronic parts factories suffered the largest decline in two years.

In terms of regions, in December, Japanese manufacturers’ shipments of electronic components in Japan decreased by 6.1% from the same month last year to 76.6 billion yen, shipments to the Americas increased by 12.8% to 38.8 billion yen, and shipments to Europe increased by 9.8% to 32.3 billion yen. The shipments to the Chinese market, where smartphones and other electronic equipment assembly plants are clustered, dropped by 15.0% to 118.8 billion yen, and the shipments to other parts of Asia fell by 3.9% to 75.1 billion yen.
From the perspective of major product categories, passive component shipments of Japanese factories in December fell 7% from the same month last year to 163.3 billion yen.
Among them, capacitor shipments fell by 8% to 114.7 billion yen, shrinking for the second consecutive month, but monthly shipments exceeded the 100 billion yen mark for the 28th consecutive month. Resistor shipments increased by 2% to 15.9 billion The yen and the Japanese yen showed growth for the 27th consecutive month. The shipments of transformers increased by 24% to 4.9 billion yen, and the shipments of inductors fell by 6% to 24.7 billion yen.
In terms of connectors, shipments of Japanese factory connectors decreased by 4% to 52.1 billion yen in December, shrinking for the second consecutive month. Shipments of switching components including touch panels increased by 1% to 33.1 billion yen. Shipments of actuators,which are used for smartphone and camera anti-shake and other purposes, decreased by 11% to 27.9 billion yen. Shipments of radio frequency components including TV tuners, filters, and wireless modules fell by 28% to 20.5 billion yen.
